The holy city Varanasi also known as the Kashi or Banaras, is pilgrimage and the city of the lord Shiva and the religious capital of India. Varanasi is the city of moksha who ever dies here the person get moksha. According to our Hindu mythology, This city was made by Lord Shiva about 5000 years ago on the west bank of Holy Ganges.

There are many amazing pilgrim tourist destinations in the city to explore, which brings the guests from all around the world. Varanasi is having one of the best market for shopping sarees (Banarasi Saree) and lehngha. Kachori Gali of the holy city Varanasi is is one of the best food street famous for typical Indian cuisine. other than food and shopping there are some of the best places to visit in Varanasi are as below.

Temples

Baba Vishwanath Mahadev Varanasi

Kashi is known as the city of temples. there are lots of temples in Varanasi but among that Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Durga Temple, Sankatmochan Temple  and Bharat mata temple are must visit temples. and every pilgrim visiting holy city Varanasi do visit this temples.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple : Kashi Vishvanath Temple is one of the well know Hindu temple of Shree Lord Shiva. This temple is situated at western bank of the holy river Ganga near the Dashashwamedh Ghat , and is among the twelve Jyotirlingas, It is also consider as most important places of worship in hindu religion.

Durga Temple : Durga temple also known as Durga Kund or Monkey Temple, is just 5 km from the Varanasi cantonment area. Theire is a kund next to this temple hence it is also know as the Durga Kund. Its said that the idol of this temple is not made by human its is Svayambhu or appeared on its own.

Sankatmochan Temple : This is temple of Lord Hanuman, Sankat Mochan means reliever from troubles. It is situated by the Assi river on near to the Durga and the New Vishwanath temple. It is said that this temple is made by the Goswami Tulsidasji, It is also believed that few part of Ramcharitmanas had been written at the pipal tree near this temple.

Bhārat Mātā temple : Bhārat Mātā temple is situated at the Kashi Vidyapeeth.  It attract so many peoples. The temple houses a marble idol of Bharat Mata along with a marble relief map of India. This temple was made by Shiv Prasad Gupta and Durga Prasad Khatri, and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936.

The Holy Ganga

One of the most visited place in Varanasi is the Holy Ganga Maiya. The Ganga also known as Bhagirathi, Alakhnanda. The Ganga is one of the holiest Hindu River. Bhagwat and Puran (Hindu Religious books) says that that taking a dip in the holy water of Ganga will offer salvation of sins and also purify the soul.

Taking a bath or dip in the holy waters of Ganges is one of the major things to do in Varanasi. Ganga, is the elder sister of Goddess Parvati, who was wife of Lord Shiva.

Ghats

Ghat of Varanasi

The holy city Varanasi is having 87 Ghats and their steps lead to the River Ganges. Among this all, Manikarnika Ghat, Assi Ghat,  Dasaswamedh Ghat are few famous ghats. Best time to visit is in the morning for holy bath in Ganga (Ganga Snan) and later visit the temples, even you can come in the evening and see the Ganga Aarti. it is advised to visit Dashashwamedh Ghat  as it is located close to Baba Vishwanath Temple, you can visit both at a same time.

Dasaswamedh Ghat is situated near the Vishwanath temple and is famous for its evening aarti. Being part of the ganga arti is once in a life moment that can not be forgotten ever.

Ramnagar Fort and Museum

Ramnagar Fort is situated at the other end of river beyond the Asi ghat. this was built in the early 17th century, this fort has been the home to royal family of Varanasi for over 400 years. The palace is still having its charm. One who is visiting this place can still be the witness of the ornamented swords, photographs of tiger shoots and also see the King and Queen can be seen decorated on the wall. The Durbar Hall of this fort is now converted into a museum, where several objects of royal family are kept on display.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous temple in Varanasi, also known as the Golden temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva. It was constructed in the year 1780 by the Maratha monarch, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of the Indore. This makes Varanasi a tourists place because of great religious importance to the Hindus.
